What this extension does
Tab Classifier organizes your browser tabs into groups. Most sorting happens
entirely on your device. For sites it doesn't already recognize, it can
optionally ask an AI service to suggest a category.
What we collect
- Google account info: your email address and Google account
ID, obtained when you sign in, used only to identify your account and check
your subscription status.
- Gumroad license key: stored to verify your subscription is
active.
- Tab data for classification: tab data may be sent for AI
classification — see the AI Processing section below for details.
- Manual correction data: when you manually recategorize a
tab, we anonymously log the site and the correction (no personal identifiers)
to help us improve automatic classification accuracy over time. If you
recategorize a tab into one of your own custom groups (rather than one of
the built-in categories), we also log that custom group's name — this
helps us understand which custom categories people create most often, so
we can decide whether to add them as built-in options in the future. This
name is logged the same way as everything else in this section: with no
account identifier attached, so it can't be linked back to you.
AI Processing
When Tab Sorter classifies a tab, the tab's hostname, title, and URL are sent
to our backend server, which forwards this information to Anthropic's Claude
API to determine the appropriate category. This data is used solely for
classification and is not used by us or Anthropic to train AI models on your
data beyond what's necessary to generate the response. It is not permanently
stored on our server — the resulting category is saved on your own device
only. No other personal browsing data is collected or shared.
What we don't do
- We don't sell or share your data with advertisers.
- We don't track your general browsing history.
- We don't store the content of pages you visit.
- Your light/dark theme preference is stored only in your browser (via
chrome.storage.local) — it's purely cosmetic, never sent to us, and never
synced anywhere.
Third parties involved
Google (sign-in), Gumroad (subscription/payment), Anthropic (AI
classification), and Cloudflare (hosting this service). Each has their own
privacy policy governing data they process on our behalf.
Data retention
Account records (email, subscription status) are retained as long as your
account is active. You can request deletion by contacting thevoxelzz@gmail.com.
